The end of a career can be a bittersweet thing, especially for a teacher. It often is a deeply personal profession and so it has been with Marcia.

After seeing her own four children into school, she worked late on most nights long after the children had gone to bed and completed Bachelors and Master’s degrees and began her career, as most do, as a substitute teacher. It was a period of determination and hard work made all the more difficult by the travel requirements of her husband’s job. She prevailed.

In time, she became a permanent Neshaminy school teacher and spent many years in the classroom teaching young students. The hours were long, with nearly every night and every weekend engaged in work that occurs outside of the classroom. Throughout the years, she experienced the joy of seeing curiosity blossom into understanding and some sadness too for children who struggled with the burdens they carried.

Now with decades in service and the increasing pressure of time, it is the moment to lay this down for others to pick up and carry forward. It is time to feel the salt air on her face and stand in awe of the wonders in the world around her. Well done Marcia, well done.
